Our philosophy:

  • As part of our emphasis at Queen Anne School on understanding the rich diversity of our community and the world around us, our courses help students to better understand and appreciate other cultures.
  • The sequence of courses is designed to assist our students in progressing towards a total immersion classroom environment.
  • Student progress in all courses is evaluated through a variety of written, oral, and aural testing procedures

About our program

    • Students begin language study in the 7th grade.  They may choose either French or Spanish.
    • If they wish, they may continue that language or change to the other language in 9th grade.
    • Completing the 7th and 8th grade sequence of either French or Spanish allows them to enter at the 2nd year level in 9th grade.
    • Students who enroll at QAS after 7th grade take a language placement test to determine the correct level.
    • In order to graduate from Queen Anne School, our students must take at least three years of language in the 9th through 12th grades.
    • We recommend four years of language study, and we are able to offer courses through Level V/ AP. Students wishing to pursue advanced study may also choose to do independent study of the literature or some other aspect of their target language.
    • Most of our students who complete our Level IV and AP courses are able to enroll in advanced levels of language study in college.
    • Outstanding students are appointed to our nationally recognized language honor societies for high school students:  the Société Honoraire du Français and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica

We provide opportunities for travel!  At QAS, we sponsor trips for students and their families. Recent destinations:
    • Paris, Normandy, and the Loire Valley
    • Rome, Italy
    • The Yucatan and Mayan Riviera
    • Provence, the French Riviera, and Barcelona
